DP World deploys IP Surveillance solution based on InfiNet Wireless - improves security and safety throughout the Port of Dakar, Senegal
InfiNet Wireless, a leading global manufacturer and provider of carrier-grade wireless infrastructure solutions for Fixed Broadband Wireless Access (FBWA) and Wireless Connectivity, today announced that DP World, a global marine terminal who ranks amongst the world's four largest container terminal operators, has selected InfiNet Wireless to supply the network and wireless infrastructure for its IP Video Surveillance project rollout across the port of Dakar, Senegal. The procurement and systems integration of the InfiNet equipment by DP World was managed by INEXO, a subsidiary of the Ceron group based in Paris, France and a specialist integrator and provider of IP Surveillance and Security solutions, working in conjunction with DP World’s local integration and video technology partners.
DP World have deployed an IP Video Surveillance network solution - based on InfiNet Wireless’s InfiMAN 2x2 high capacity Point-to-Multipoint Wireless solutions - across the existing four container terminals of the Port of Dakar, with link lengths between the security control centre and the camera locations ranging from less than 30m to in excess of 1km. InfiMAN 2x2 products are based on InfiNet’s MIMO technology that offers significant bandwidth and spectral efficiency improvements over existing broadband wireless technologies.
Mr Sow Samba, Security Director for DP World, explains: “The key objective of the project was to both enhance the security of the port container terminals and improve the overall health and safety aspect across the facility. The IP Surveillance implementation gives full video coverage across the whole expanse of the container facility, enabling us to better co-ordinate activities across the terminals as a whole. In addition, it allows us to increase the safety of the site for visitors and employees, whilst also offering the additional benefit of a 24x7 monitoring capability of the site to prevent theft or unauthorised trespass”.
The architecture needed to be based around a wireless IP Surveillance solution, because of the constantly changing layout of the port cargo areas and the movement and storage of the cargo containers themselves. The flexibility of a wireless-based architecture was fundamental to the project’s commercial and technical success.
Mr Sene Banda, IT Manager for DP World at the Port of Dakar, offers further insight to the technical challenges. “Implementing the solution based on a wireless network architecture would provide significant challenges in terms of coping with difficult and extreme climatic conditions, guaranteeing high reliability and uptime requirements, and providing video-capable throughput capacity in a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment across the port facility. InfiNet Wireless’s InfiMAN products have offered exemplary performance in all of the above categories, and we are pleased with the overall success of the project to date.”
Commenting for InfiNet Wireless on the announcement, Robert Stubblebine, CEO for Infinet Wireless, explains: “InfiNet Wireless already has a reputation for innovative, flexible and highly reliable solutions with its customers, and InfiNet’s wireless portfolio offers both a compelling business benefit through lower cost of ownership and clear technical and performance advantages over its nearest competitors. We are pleased that DP World and INEXO have chosen InfiNet yet again for its wireless networking solution across another DP World facility, and we are always confident of our products’ ability to outperform competitor’s equipment in these difficult environments. ”
