Public Safety Broadband Consortium Adopts InfiNet Wireless’ Open Standard Mesh Solutions

Las Vegas, Nevada28 March 2007

InfiNet Wireless, a worldwide leader in multiservice broadband wireless access systems, today announced that the Public Safety Broadband Consortium has adopted its new set of Open Standard Mesh solutions designed for the 4.9 GHz public safety band. The Consortium, an industry partnership begun by Public Safety Broadband, InfiNet Wireless, WiFi-Citywide and Insight Video Net to advance the efforts of emergency response and wireless interoperability, will allow public safety officials and OEMs to purchase radios from multiple vendors and ensure communication on the same wireless network.

InfiNet’s Open Standard Mesh solutions feature a mobile mesh hybrid router/switch, which forms an instant ad-hoc mesh network, enabling multiple incident scene management, peer-to-peer connectivity applications; faster video downloads; and automatic transfer to PTM mode when in base range. Its mesh router software has now been ported to an open standard XScale hardware platform, allowing resellers and end-users to take advantage of products from several manufacturers and suppliers. The software allows InfiNet Wireless routers to run on multi-radio nodes and frequency bands, as well as to support future upgrades to WiMAX 802.16e.

“This is a much needed step toward a mesh networking protocol standard; without a standard, different vendors’ equipment will not work together,” said Mike Doble, CEO of Public Safety Broadband. “The new Open Standard Mesh solutions allow municipalities to immediately benefit from InfiNet’s unique mobile mesh capabilities, while taking advantage of decreasing prices between vendors and having the freedom of choice in buying and selling hardware.”

InfiNet’s built-in router functions are compatible with single, dual, and quad mini-PCI Radio slot options on the hardware platform.
