MAC-layer features
ARP protocol support
ARP protocol performs IP to MAC-address mapping. For example in Ethernet it allows to transform IP destination address into its 48-bit Ethernet address for packet forwarding over LAN.
In common case ARP works automatically making address resolution as it is necessary. But there are some cases when ARP tables should be corrected manually and ARP support module solves this problem.
InfiNet Wireless ARP protocol realization offers the following additional functionalities:
- Display ARP records for a certain IP-address or view all ARP records in the ARP table of a unit
- Manually add a record into the ARP table
- Establish a unit as a proxy ARP server
- Manually delete a record from ARP table. Definite record, all records or only proxy IP-addresses can be specified to be deleted
- Freeze ARP table. No more automatic updates are allowed. This feature can help to avoid MAC address substitution by an unwanted device
MAC filtering
MAC Filter in InfiNet Wireless equipment performs static mapping of IP-addresses to MAC-addresses in an Ethernet network. It may be useful for service providers when they connect to their network a group of clients (such as individual users in an apartment block) via one common access unit. In this case, clients may be tempted to change their IP-address to that of a neighbor, thus deceiving provider's accounting system. Although it is almost impossible to definitely resolve this issue, you can increase your network more secure by directly mapping the client's assigned IP-address to his/her MAC-address as forging a MAC-address will be a tough task for an average user.
Switch mode
Any InfiNet Wireless unit can be configured as a 2nd layer switch or bridge. Unlike most of wireless equipment vendors’ switching/bridging basic functionality realization, InfiNet Wireless MAC switch represents a powerful tool aimed to make your switched network secure, storm-free and multi-service.
Among key features of InfiNet Wireless MAC switch one can mention:
- Multiple groups allowing isolating traffic
- Full 802.1q VLAN support
- VLAN Trunking
- Flexible set of rules allowing traffic filtering according to numerous criteria (IP addresses/networks, ports, protocols, MAC-addresses, VLANs etc)
- Bridge mode (repeater)
- Storm / flood protection
